Season 2 of The Donna Reed Show is here, and the wait was wonderfully short! There are 38 new episodes of the Stone Family's life to enjoy. Mary Stone is now 15 and brother Jeff is now 12 years old. Mary at 15, starts to date, as the high school boys and even young college men take notice of the beautiful young woman she is becoming. There are great guest stars on these episodes as well. The beautiful Esther Williams plays Donna's school friend Molly. And a young Marion Ross, the Happy Days mom plays Jeff's new teacher. This second season is just as wonderful as the first, as you follow life in the Stone household through the end of 1959 and halfway into 1960. Hopefully, the next six seasons will follow just as quickly as this one did, as each season just keeps getting more wonderful than the one before with such great stories and guest stars!

The Dick Van Dyke Show - Season One (5 Disc Box Set) (1961)
Average Reviews:

I just bought this set (along with Season 2) and can't say enough good things about it. First, when Image says the episodes are "restored" -- they mean it! Picture and sound quality are excellent. Next, these are the FULL-LENGTH episodes, completely unedited. The first episode I played had a scene in the middle of the show that I'd never seen before (not on TV Land, not on Nick at Nite, not in local syndication). Running time of each episode is at least 25 minutes & 30 seconds -- wow. Another episode I played even had the original network footage at the beginning, with Dick Van Dyke saying, "Welcome to our new time slot." Amazing. Then there are the bonus features -- audio commentaries (interesting ones!) and new interviews and original TV commercials and Emmy Awards footage and more. Finally, the packaging is very sleek and looks great. Do yourself a favor and buy this. Do ALL "Dick Van Dyke Show" fans a favor and buy it so that Image will release Seasons 3 through 5.

The Abbott & The Costello Show: The Complete Series (Collector's Edition) (1952) Review

The Abbott and The Costello Show: The Complete Series (Collector's Edition) (1952)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Some say opportunity only knocks once...well, for those of us who missed THE ABBOTT AND COSTELLO SHOW in its previous DVD releases this is another chance to add all of the 52 episodes to our collection. The shows, digitally remastered, look and sound great and, as one might expect, contain many of the classic routines A&C made famous throughout their careers. For the devoted A&C fan, this is a must have!
In addition to the shows on eight discs, this boxed set includes a ninth DVD of special features: "Hey, Abbott" 1978 TV special hosted by Milton Berle, a 1948 short film entitled "10,000 Kids and a Cop," interviews with Chris and Paddy Costello, and "Lou Costello Home Movies: Holidays and Celebrations." There are also a couple of bonus features included amid the shows: a classic routine reel and more Lou Costello home movies at home and in Europe. You will also find four high-quality postcards featuring stills of the comedy duo.
The 52 episodes are listed on the covers of the two inner DVD cases, as well as in the Commemorative Booklet that comes with the set so it will be easy to find the shows you want to single out for another viewing. This booklet includes biography information on the show's cast and a history of A&C's career. The one potential drawback is that the fold-up boxed set comes in the traditional cardboard cover and may not hold up well over time. The inner DVD plastic cases, however, are well-protected and should hold up just fine.
The comedy of Abbott and Costello remains as funny today as when it was originally broadcast. This set gives the viewer the chance to once again sit back, laugh, and marvel at how these two men made such meticulously crafted routines look so easy. The A&C fan can't go wrong with this set!

Combat - The Complete Series (1962) Review

Combat - The Complete Series (1962)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Alas we have Combat - The Complete Series in an all encompassing 40 disc set. As a baby boomer whose dad proudly served his country contributing to both the European and Pacific theatres, I treasure this series as it told the stories of our brave men and women truly fighting for world peace. Like most returning GI's, my father, who was in the U.S. Army MAC, really never spoke about the things he saw during his time overseas. He is gone now as is many of his fellow "Greatest Generation" comrades. Although Combat! does not show the graphic carnage that comes with battle, it does show the daily emotional toll that war brought to the boots on the ground, as best as 1960's television could provide. It reminds us that the only good thing about war is its ending.
This series is truly a tribute all VFW's then and especially now.

The Outer Limits: Nightmare (1963) Review

The Outer Limits: Nightmare (1963)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The tenth in the series, which is based on a `War Of The Worlds' theme, this episode was one of the most interesting episodes of The Outer Limits that I have seen.
Earth is in war with Planet Ebon, and some soldiers are captured in the new planet, and made prisoners. The Ebonites have powers in which they can control all the five senses of man, and use this to control the men. The Ebonites interrogate the men, one by one, for more information, by playing with their senses. One of the soldiers suddenly dies and the men fear that the Ebonites killed him. To make things worse, one of the men have turned traitor by leaking important information to the Ebonites. The men, once united, now turn against one another and start pointing fingers. There's Pvt. Arthur Dix (played by Martin Sheen) who sees hallucinations of his mother, and fears that he might have blurted the information to her; James Willowmore (played by Bill Gunn), who loses his sight and would do anything to get it back; Col. Luke Stone (played by Ed Nelson), who says he slept but might have been in a trace and leaked out the information; and Maj. Jong (played by James Shigeta) who is tortured in the chambers and could have said anything to stop. Who is the real traitor, and will these men ever be able to escape?
What started off as a battle between the Worlds, this episode soon turns into a psychological drama of finding the culprit; it shows the human nature of people under pressure, and how they would react to one another. The ending has its own twist too, as whom we thought as the enemies turn out to be harmless, and there is a more sinister conspiracy behind the incident. The acting of the entire cast was great, especially by James Shigeta and Ed Nelson. Martin Sheen overacted a bit and at times turned out to bee a little irritating.
To quote Vic Perrin (The Control Voice): "The exploration of human behavior under simulated conditions of stress is a common placed component of the machinery called War. So long as man anticipates and prepares for combat, be it with the neighboring nations or with our neighbors in space, these unreal games must be played; and there are only real men to play them. According to established military procedures, the results of the Ebon maneuvers will be recorded in books and fed into computers for the edification and enlightenment of all the strategists of the future. Perhaps they will learn something."

Three (GREAT) episodes are the appetizer, now how about the full course Warner Bros.? There are a lot of western fans who would love to own each season of this classic series. Clint Walker was an absolutely perfect western hero: tall, broad shouldered and a man of few words.
Love the episode transfers, wish there could have been some extras (even an onscreen written summary of each episode), but hey, bare bones is better than nothing.
I hope WB will test the waters further with episodes of "Bronco," "Sugarfoot", "Lawman", "Colt .45" and "The Dakotas."

Three Bells for Perdido was the first episode of the classic TV western, Have Gun, Will Travel. It set the stage for the episodes that followed and introduced us to the central character--Paladin. Well acted, taunt and authentic, a feast for those of us who love westerns. Watch for Jack Lord in his pre-Hawaii Five-O days as the villian. While not the BEST episode that the show produced, this episode also did not get lost in introducing the character and setting of the series.

I Love Lucy - Job Switching/Lucy Meets Bob Hope (1951) Review

I Love Lucy - Job Switching/Lucy Meets Bob Hope (1951)
Average Reviews:

JOB SWITCHING is probably THE most remembered episode in this incredibly beloved series. Lucy and Ethel switch places with Ricky and Fred: The boys will stay home and do the housework and cook the meals while the girls go to work at a job and bring home the bacon. The results have been seen by untold millions and they are HILARIOUS. Lucy and Ethel get a job through and employment agency at Kramer's Kandy Kitchen-wrapping, dipping and boxing chocolates. Lucy sees a fly while she's ineptly dipping with a pro. When the fly finally lights, Lucy swats it good (it just happened to be on the woman's face!) Needless to say the lady (IMMEDIATELY) socks Lucy but good and they go at it! The boys are in the process of making arroz con pollo. The chickens blast out of the pressure cooker and soon the four pounds of rice is literally gushing out of the huge pot onto the kitchen floor while Fred and Ricky use dust pans and the like to scoop the sticky mess while Ricky slips and falls into it. Ethel gets kicked out of the boxing department "I kept pinchin' them to see what kind they were" so the girls work together in their last chance at Kramer's: wrapping the chocolates in wrappers as they come down the assembly line. The rest is television history.LUCY MEETS BOB HOPE is a good episode in which Lucy gets herself disguised as a kid selling hot dogs at Yankee Stadium in order to meet Bob Hope. They (with Ricky) do a dance routine at the Tropicana and it's a pleasant if not rollicking half-hour.

When I fisrt rented this video, I thought it would be hum-drum and boring. But I found it to be suspenseful, interesting, entertaining and definitely worth seeing. It's about a young man(William Shatner) who goes to visit his aunt who just recently married a man much younger than herself, he comes to warn her of an 'evil' painting that brings certain death to all who posses it. But the painting does not strike without warning, before the unlucky party is to die, the scythe in the painting bears blood, and its meaning is certain death. The ending was the best. Just when you think you've figured the plot, a surprise twist occurs. Starring William Shatner and hosted by the great Boris Karloff, and written by Robert Bloch, the author of Psycho, this is a thriller worth dying for.

The Rifleman, Volume 1 (1958)

This three episode collection issued by Alpha Video contains the same three episodes that have been issued by various companies specializing in public domain material; in fact, if you already own any DVDs of the Chuck Connors Western "The Rifleman," be sure to compare the episodes on your discs with those contained on Alpha's so as to avoid possible duplication. The episodes include "Outlaw's Inheritance," "Day of the Hunter," and "Mail Order Groom." For casual fans of the series who would like to include a few episodes in their classic TV collection, this DVD will fit the bill nicely. But serious fans of "The Rifleman" will want to check out the various official DVD box sets issued by MPI for the best episode selection and best audio/visual quality.
Trivia Note: John Anderson guest stars in two of the episodes, "Day of the Hunter" and "Mail Order Groom." These two episodes were originally broadcast just a week apart!

Exciting western action, topflight production values and a strong and consistent cast of characters made "The Rifleman," starring Chuck Conners, into a highly successful TV series during the late 50s and continuing into 1963. Connors, as a lightning-fast, super accurate marksman and devoted, single father, imbued many of the episodes with a wholesome, moral lesson. The relationship between Lucas McCain (Connors) and his young son, Mark (Johnny Crawford), is both believable and admirable, another big plus for the show's devoted fans.MAIL ORDER GROOM: The notorious Proffit brothers have been badgering Agnes, the old maid of the town to keep her from buying valuable ranch land they want for themselves. But soon after the stagecoach rolls into Northfolk carrying the husband-to-be that Agnes advertised for back east-the badgering turns to bullying and beyond. Soon the Rifleman intervenes and tries desperately to keep a murder from ruining a marriage.THE OUTLAW'S INHERITANCE: The town council votes unanimously to have Lucas represent them when they make their bid to have a proposedrailroad spur come to Northfolk. But a crooked businessman from the rival town of Center City, plots to win the lucrative bid and discredit the Rifleman by associating him with a notorious bank robber.DAY OF THE HUNTER: Legendary old Indian scout Cass Callicot shows up in town with a challenge. He hopes to outshoot the Rifleman and prove that he still possesses the marksman skills he had in his youth. Wanting to avoid a shootout, Lucas brushes the old man off resulting in a tense confrontation which treatens young Mark.

If you're involved in a re-fi to remodel or re-decorate, you owe it to yourself to get a bigger perspective of just what a fine home can be. AMERICA'S CASTLES THE GRAND TOUR (A&E/NewVideo) is a glorious look at a handful of the most extraordinary American homes; grand estates that reflect the life and times of the original owners.
This two disc set features dozens of unique landmarks that will astonish you with their exuberantly inventive splendor. Experience Rockefeller's fabled estate in the Hudson Valley, the breezy elegance of the Newport mansions, the wooded seclusion of the grand Adirondack "camps," Donald Trumps Mar-A-lago in Palm Beach and many more including the fabled Vanderbilt estate.
America's Castles is an open door invitation to the exclusive and spectacular addresses that not only reveal the exteriors and interiors but remarkable lives of the denizens who dwell, and dwelled within.
I was dazzled at the opulance and the indulgent decadence. This is a great documentary on the far end of material success America offers to the lucky and the blessed. And the criminality of the lords of industry.

I just wanted to express my appreciation to everyone who has posted a review here. I'm really flattered and happy to see the first season LIS DVD box doing so well. Of course I can't be objective about it, but the first season is definitely my favorite. It was a wonderful experience for me to make the show as a kid and it's a wonderful experience now to watch it with my kids and to see that it still excites and pleases people all over our woe begotten beautiful planet. So, on behalf of my fellow LIS cast members (who are still in touch with each other regularly and are still very much a "family") Thank you all for the kind words. Enjoy!

Mystery Science Theater 3000 - Beginning of the End (1957)
Average Reviews:

One of my favorite MST3Ks: a great example of the mid 1950s "atomic monster" genre, with laughable special effects. Giant mutant grasshoppers attack the mountains and deserts of central "Illinois," before moving on to destroy Chicago by crawling up picture postcards of the Wrigley Building and being lured into Lake Michigan by electronic grasshopper mating calls made by a young Peter Graves ("Hi, I'm Peter Graves. Tonight on 'Biography'..."), ironically the nuclear scientist responsible for the whole giant-mutation thing, not to mention his deaf-mute assistant Frank's gruesome dismemberment and death at the chomping mandibles of one seriously big mother of a locust. America's finest fighting force (the Illinois National Guard) is powerless against this giant hopping threat. Another 1957 monster classic from infamous science fiction filmmaker Bert I. Gordon, the undisputed master of movies about giant animals attacking California cities masquerading as the midwest. Don't miss the riveting post-opening credits scene: an apparently endless car-approaching sequence (Mike: "Folks, we'll start the movie as soon as our ride gets here."), and the incessant, earsplitting, marching-band music soundtrack. An early Mike Nelson episode, it's a great example of classic MST3K: bad sci-fi flick, hilarious riffing on the film by Mike and the bots, including a *seriously* weird host segment where rubber grasshoppers attack postcards Mike just happens to have lying around. I actually saw this one week before I moved to Chicago, which is all-but-destroyed in the movie, and it seriously creeped me out for a while, though I've never been able to drive by Champaign-Urbana without looking over my shoulder for giant grasshoppers.
