(More customer reviews)You can't beat the value -- an entire run of 78 half-hour TV shows from the late '50s, nicely packaged in a sort of mini-notebook, for something like thirty bucks -- but be aware that these episodes are not crisp originals; they're slightly amateurish, slightly blurry copies of the shows, like second-generation videos of videos.

(More customer reviews)* "A Nice Place To Visit" (Eps. 28, aired 4/15/60) - When Gangster Rocky Valentine (Larry Blyden) gets shot to death, he is welcomed to a world where he gets everything he wants and wins at everything. But, when he gets bored, he finds out he is just getting his just deserts. Three Stars.
* "A Penny For Your Thoughts" (Eps. 52, aired 2/3/61) - With a lucky flip of a coin, bank clerk Hector Poole (Dirk York) gains the ability to read people's minds. But, as he soon discovers, you can't believe everything that people think. This is a more comedic than serious Twilight Zone episode, and gets four stars.
* "Little Girl Lost" (Eps. 91, aired 3/16/62) - Late one night, the Miller's six year old daughter, Bettina, can be heard throughout the house, but can't be found anywhere. With the help of a physicist friend, they discover a hole from Bettina's room to possibly the fourth dimension. Will the Millers be able to save their daughter in time? Although it has a X Files feel and it was a basis for a later Simpson's episode, the effects limitations of that time really shows. Two stars.
* "I Am The Night - Color Me Black" (Eps. 146, aired 3/27/64) On the morning of the execution of an idealist who murdered a racist bully, the sky has turned pitch black around the town. Emotions run high as the time of execution approaches. This story, penned by Rod Serling, gets somewhat preachy at times, but is still good. Three stars.
The prints used for these DVD are in excellent condition for their age, with only an occasional speck or mark.

Space Patrol (4 Early Tv Episodes) Vol. 2 Review

(More customer reviews)Space patrol ran from 1950-55. It was one of the best of several early 50's optimistic views of the dawning space/atomic age. More often than not, the scripts and plots were fairly routine, but the view of the future was marvelous. Ed Kemmer portrayed a marvelous heroic figure in Buzz Correy. Lynn Osborne did a great job as the psuedo-kid sidekick--though in real life he dated Marilyn Monroe. Virginia Hewitt and Nina Bara were years ahead of their time in portraying intelligent, capable women. Sometimes the shows got into social commentary (ie., "the Atomic Vault" in volume 3) that seemed daring for the time. A great nostalgia tour for those of us who remember. And a persuasive argument that others had boldly gone before "Star Trek." Roddenberry was a fan according to his authorized biography. You can still see bits of it in "Star Trek."

Premiere Episodes: Have Gun Will Travel, Gunsmoke, Rawhide, Wild Wild West (1959) Review

(More customer reviews)This First Draw set is an unbelieveably priced collection of the pilots or premier episodes of popular westerns of the past. Once I saw that two episodes of Have Gun Will Travel was included I was sold. Richard Boone playing Paladin was the epitome of cool decked out in his all black outfit and pencil thin moustache. One episode included a young Charles Bronson playing a bad guy.
A youthful, pre-spaghetti western Clint Eastwood playing in Rawhide also was something special. I was never a big fan of Gunsmoke but James Arness diligently does his thing as Marshal Matt Dillon in the pilot episode.
Also included in this set was the initial episode of the Wild Wild West which was a more recent and cutting edge western that I always enjoyed. Robert Conrad and Ross Martin playing secret agents working for President U.S. Grant combined the ingenuity of a James Bond type plot with the earthiness of an old style western.
This set was a very nostalgic blast from the past at a ridiculously cheap price. I highly recommend it.

(More customer reviews)The discs arrived in a timely manner. The difficulty is that they were recorded from a Comedy Central Cable broadcast. Comedy Central's logo is displayed at the start of each show and the quality is at times adequate to very bad at other times. The only redeeming quality is that the program is not available from the copyright holder. Still this information should be included in the item description, but it is not.

(More customer reviews)Volume 35 of the Star Trek DVD series features two good episodes from the third season with guest appearances from stars of the recently cancelled Batman TV series.
Lee Meriwether plays Losira in THAT WHICH SURVIVES, the last of a long extinct alien race on a deserted planet. When the Enterprise arrives at the planet, crew men are being fatally assaulted by Losira, who keeps appearing and disappearing from the Enterprise to the planet's surface. To make matters worse The Enterprise runs into technical problems leaving Scotty to try and sort them out. In the end it turns out that Losira is nothing more than the planet's defence system which is still runnning long after she and her entire race died out. This ending is somewhat strange and leaves the viewer scratching their head. None the less THAT WHICH SURVIVES is still a good episode. The story is pretty good despite the confusing ending and ee Meriwether has always been top notch eye candy. Strangely Mr.Spock is rude to almost everyone in this episode which makes the viewer wonder......
Frank Gorshin plays Bele in LET THAT BE YOUR LAST BATTLEFIELD a Charonian Police Officer tracking down an outlaw named Lokei (played by Lou Antonio). His search brings him to The Enterprise. Bele insists that Lokei has committed some terrible crimes nad must pay the price. However Lokei pleads that his kind on Charon are treated like this by authority regardless of what they have done. Essentially this episode tackles the racism issue head on. Bele and Lokei are both Charonians but Bele has black skin on the right side and white on the left while Lokei is the reverse. The entire conflict seems to be a big joke but thats what the producers wanted to get across. That racism was ridiculous and pointless. The problem with this episode is it is way too preachy. The story is basically Bele and Lokei screaming at eachother about morals throughout. Thus the message is crammed down viewers throats. Still this is a great Star Trek episode despite the lack o developed plot. Good casting and a stragnely effective episode that deals with this issue that plagued the 60's.
Overall this is one of the better third season DVD's. There are flaws but it's not terrible. These are two goods episodes with great guest stars. Highly recommended!
