(More customer reviews)The classic 1960's TV comedy series "Hazel", starring veteran actress Shirley Booth was a popular favourite through most of the early part of that decade and gained immortality for Shirley Booth as the lovable and take charge maid of the Baxter household, Hazel Burke. Based on the very popular cartoon character that appeared regularly in the Saturday Evening Post, it was a perfect marriage of actress and character.
"A Double Holiday Dose of Hazel", includes the two much loved Christmas episodes from the series, the first "Just 86 Shopping Minutes left till Christmas", is in colour and the second from earlier in the series "Hazel's Christmas Shopping",is in black and white. Both are very endearing stories appropriate for the festive season and really display the great character that Shirley Booth became famous for in the later part of her accomplished career. The first episode has a strangely modern theme to it in that Hazel's employer George Baxter (Don DeFore), has grown tired of all the commercialism of Christmas and decides that this year he will not allow the family to give gifts they can't afford to each other. Hazel being who she is can't help but step in to try and rectify the situation and not let her beloved "Missy" ..Dorothy Baxter go without a Christmas present. Hazel saves the day for the family and George sees the error of not celebrating Christmas in the traditonal way and ends up with a last minute beautiful gift for Dorothy. The second episode finds Hazel in a different dilemma where she finds she is short of money to buy Dorothy a beautiful dressing table set for Christmas. Hazel takes a part time job at the department store to get the extra money she needs and in the process manages to take over the whole shop floor much to the frustration of the store floor walker. In between selling gloves and dispensing wisdom over the counter Hazel manages to catch a compulsive shoplifter who in the Christmas rush is stealing everything from skis to televisions from the store. All ends happily with Hazel getting the present for Dorothy she so badly wanted.
Both these episodes are totally charming and make heartwarming viewing during the festive season. They are really brought alive by the great acting of Shirley Booth in the central role of Hazel. She made this lively maid a unique television character and ended up winning two Emmy Awards for the role. A veteran dramatic actress on Broadway and in her Oscar winning film of "Come Back Little Sheba", with Burt Lancaster, Booth was warned not to take the role on a television sitcom by her New York acting friends who considered it a real come down for such an acclaimed actress. Happily Shirley Booth thought otherwise and saw the great potential of this colourful character. Ignoring that advise she went on to even greater stardom with a wider audience than she had ever had before.
I strongly recommend "A Double Dose of Hazel", to all lovers of 1960's sitcoms and for any people who like myself love Christmas themed episodes of popular programs from the Golden years of television in the 1950's and 60's. It's a pity more episodes of Hazel apart from these two Christmas episodes, aren't available on video. However these two are a wonderful way to spend 45 minutes and they allow you the unique opportunity of becoming acquainted with America's most famous maid the immortal Hazel Burke.

LOVE BLOOMS AT HEMPLE'S Rhoda falls in love with her boss.
THE DINNER PARTY One of Mary's typical dinner parties (this one for a congresswoman) wherein everything that can go wrong does.
JUST FRIENDS Lou wants Edie to come back to him, and asks Mary to make it happen.

BEST OF ENEMIES Mary and Rhoda are on the outs after Rhoda blabs a secret that Mary never wanted told.
BETTER LATE...THAT'S A PUN...THAN NEVER Mary gets in a silly mood and writes a funny obituary for WJM's file. Nobody's laughing when that person dies the next day and the jocular obit is read on the air.

My Favorite Martian - The Complete First Season (1963) Review

(More customer reviews)Okay, first, I have to admit that I haven't made it through all 37 shows in this set, so all I can say about the transfers is....so far, they are excellent. Other non-studio companies packaging television programs would learn a lot to follow the lead of Rhino. They include all intro and outro sequences, and are the full program, as originally broadcast.
The one thing that distracts from this being a 5 star set is the packaging. This is the worst packaging job I have seen yet of a season set. The single DVD plastic keep-case, with a hinged 2-DVD insert is just plain cheap. Not only that, it promotes the damage of the discs...including the fact that one of the dual-sided discs rests on the mount for the third disk (which is stored on the back flap of the case).
The insert is a simple cardboard one....no booklet detailing the different episodes, or giving any additional information. Just a list of the shows.
Also, a menu of the episode selections would have been greatly appreciated. The only choices on the main menu are "Play All" and "Scene Selections". In order to choose an episode, you must page through the "Scene Selections" and choose the beginning scene of the desired episode.
Another note....when an episode concludes, the viewer is not sent back to the menu, but instead, the next episode starts playing.
Rhino really gets an "A" for releasing this show, and for it's video transfers (not only the quality, but that they are in their entirety).
Unfortunately, they are prevented from getting 5 stars by their poor menu programming, and the packaging which doesn't protect the disks.
Still, if you are a fan of classic TV, this set is still well recommended.

(More customer reviews)It's time to celebrate, the First Season of the ground-breaking and truly iconic classic The Donna Reed Show is coming to DVD after years of fan pleadings - along with a promise to release Season 2 next year!
Joe Amodei, President of Arts Alliance America and Mary Owen (the daughter of Donna Reed) made the happy announcement together. The release will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the show's debut episode. ABC first aired The Donna Reed Show on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 1958 at 9:00 p.m.
The series took place in the fictional town of Hilldale. It centered around the dreams, ambitions, and frustrations of the Stone family: Alex, a pediatrician; his wife, Donna; and their children, Mary, Jeff, and Trisha (unofficially adopted in later episodes).
It was the beginning of a long relationship with America as viewers tuned in weekly to visit the Stone family for eight years, representing 274 episodes. The series' final episode aired March 19, 1966.
Ms. Reed was Emmy nominated four times for her role on the show, and in 1963 won a Golden Globe as Best Female TV Star. She also won the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in 1953 for her performance in "From Here To Eternity," but is probably best known for her role as Jimmy Stewart's wife, Mary Bailey, in the Christmas masterpiece, "It's a Wonderful Life."
The series was one of several family-based shows that literally helped shaped the landscape of reality in America - rather than the other way 'round. Other Classic iconic family shows of the era included Father Knows Best, Leave It to Beaver, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, The Patty Duke Show and My Three Sons.
The adventures of the Stone family were similar to what those other TV families had to contend with - measles, girlfriends and boyfriends, school problems, little white lies, and so on, compounded by the fact that Dr. Alex was always running off at odd hours to attend his patients. Like those other shows, it had a wholesome quality that endeared it to audiences.
But, the ground-breaking difference between this show and all of the others was its focus: In this series, it was the Mom who knew best. This was the first show of its kind where the Mom was the lead character. And what a Mom! In my opinion, Ms. Reed was - and remains - in a class by herself.
When this show originally aired, Ms. Reed became an influential role model to women - as mother, wife and professional.
Despite all of these shows utter lack of racial and religious diversity and conservative depiction of conformity at all costs, I still love them all. I'm a liberal feminist so it makes absolutely NO sense, but there it is. My favorite is Father Knows Best, but this show comes in a very close second because of its star.
Ms. Reed was effervescent without being mechanical. She was sweet, funny and forgiving - everything a child could ever want in a Mom. In addition, her relationship with her "husband," played by the brilliant Carl Betz, had just a hint of real sexuality that was blatantly missing in the other shows.
In addition to Mr. Betz (who later starred in the Classic TV courtroom drama Judd for the Defense,) the cast included Shelley Fabares and Paul Peterson, as the Stone's children, Mary and Jeff. The Donna Reed Show remained on the air so long that the original children grew up. Mary left for college in 1962 and Jeff did the same two seasons later. An 8-year-old orphan named Trisha was adopted by the Stones joined the cast in January of 1963 to maintain the "family" appeal of the series. Patty Peterson, who played, Trisha was Paul Peterson's (Jeff Stone) real-life sister.
Close friends of the Stones were Midge Kelsey, played by Ann McCrea, and her husband, Dr. David Kelsey, played by Bob Crane (long before the Classic TV comedy Hogan's Heroes.) Children pals were Smitty, played by Darryl Richard and Herbie Bailey, played by Tommy Ivo.
The Donna Reed Show had numerous special guests stars including Buster Keaton, who appeared twice on the program, Marlo Thomas, Esther Williams, and baseball greats Don Drysdale and Willie Mays who appeared on the show as themselves.
For 10 years syndicated re-runs of The Donna Reed Show entertained new generations of young people on Nick at Nite. In a growing resurgence of nostalgia and a salute to Mothe;'s Day, the cable television network, Nickelodeon, aired a week long "Seven Day Donna-Thon" of episodes in 1990.
Ms. Reed's daughter, Mary Owen, said, "My Mother always said that she and my Father (Tony Owen was the Producer and principal architect of The Donna Reed Show) had climbed a mountain together making this show. For a whole generation of Baby Boomers, the Stone's were their second family. Today, when Boomers are starting to retire, it's time again to sit and watch The Donna Reed Show, this time with their grand kids and let them be amazed at who established and sowed the seeds of the American family. In the 1960's, before we lived with computers and cable TV with over 200 channels of mostly junk, the Stone family showed what love, respect and support for one another looked like."
In the debut episode, "Weekend Trip," audiences were introduced to the Stone family and got a glimpse of their sometimes chaotic day-to-day life flavored by the loving influence of Donna Stone who dispenses advice, discipline, humor and wisdom to her family. When series begins, Donna and Alex Stone had been married for 15 years.

This beloved and hugely successful sitcom premiered 50 years ago on the ABC network and aired from 1958-1966. Sgt. Bilko: The Phil Silvers Show - First Season Review

(More customer reviews)The Phil Silvers show was one of the funniest comedies ever on TV and deserves a season-by-season release. The show originally ran from 1955-59, only four years, but had a whopping 143 episodes! A few years ago, Paramount released a 50th Anniversary Edition of the show (sometimes titled "Bilko" and sometimes "The Phil Silvers Show," though Wikipedia states the original title was "You'll Never Get Rich"). That earlier dvd collection only included 18 episodes selected from all 4 seasons, with most from the first season.
Most fans have wanted a season-by-season collection, and this release of Season One is a good step in that direction. (It would have been nice, as others have noted, if the manufacturer had included a "play all" viewing choice, but the picture quality is crisp.)
Please note: Ten episodes from this Season One set do overlap with the Sgt. Bilko - 50th Anniversary Edition (The Phil Silvers Show) earlier set, including the episodes New Recruits, The WAC, The Horse, The Eating Contest, Bivouac, the Twitch, the Investigation, The Revolutionary War, The Court Martial, and The Con Men. However, you're still getting 24 other episodes NOT on that earlier set, including the very funny The Empty Store, and others. It's worth buying the new set, though the Anniversary edition has more special features.

This Phil Silvers show was well written and well acted, with some very funny improvised moments. (The series creator Nat Hiken should be given a lot of credit for creating a quality show that just wasn't the same after he left.)
In this first season you have the episode titled "The Court Martial." Normally, that would sound like a serious subject. Not for Bilko. It seems the army wants to improve their timing and efficiency in processing new recruits. Unfortunately, one of the new recruits is a monkey. This is an episode that can't be described, but must be seen. And if you can get through it without laughing uncontrollably, then you need to see a doctor to see if your sense of humor was removed without your consent.
What is great about the Phil Silvers show is that even when the situations get insane, the humor never talks down to the audience. And Bilko, despite all his schemes, can never finally let his men down. (Except perhaps in the fourth season, done without Hiken, which is not the best.) This is also a show that had an integrated cast--a rarity then--and early TV appearances of Dick Van Dyke and others. The show started the career of actor George Kennedy.
Buy this set and encourage the manufacturer to put out the other 3 seasons on dvd. This show is unbelievably funny, with humor that isn't dated, and deserves to be enjoyed for generations. Silvers was a comedy genius.

I Love Lucy - Season One (Vol. 1) (1951) Review

(More customer reviews)People incensed that we are not getting these a season at a time are neglecting to review the product itself. This DVD is SPLENDIFEROUS.
The picture quality is gorgeous -- the lighting looks as good as movie stills. And these are complete episodes -- remember that in syndication we have always seen them with bits chopped off except on Nickelodeon (did you ever wonder why the audience was often already laughing when the show started? It was because the syndicated version cut in AFTER the original beginning).
We get a whole episode of the radio show MY FAVORITE HUSBAND -- one of the few old radio shows that still holds up for us moderns with minor adjustment. One cannot really understand what I LOVE LUCY "was" historically without starting with MY FAVORITE HUSBAND; what a great idea to put episodes on these DVDs. (Maybe it will help turn LUCY fans on to old radio -- if you love Lucy, there is a lot of, particularly, late 40s radio comedy that you will love as well, and old radio is now cheaper and more available than it has ever been before in this era of MP3 files.)
We get the pilot -- complete with the original announcer restoring the lost first few seconds of the voice-over 50 years later! (Why, though, is it listed as 45 minutes but takes up ten minutes less time?)
And then also bonuses like an alternate laughtrack over an ending, a clip used for a rerun not seen since 1953, etc.
This is the definitive presentation of this show, in a medium that does not turn to dust on the shelf after 20 years. This is very, very special.
The truth is that like all shows, I LOVE LUCY took a little while to get its sea legs; I do not consider these first three to be the best of the run by any means. But their historical value is obvious, and here they are for us to possess forever.
As for the piecemeal release schedule, honestly, I find getting 20-odd episodes at a time a little overwhelming. I guess it depends on your lifestyle, but for me sets like that are an instant huge backlog waiting to be taken in bit by bit, kind of like a massive book you never seem to finish. I LIKE getting to sample the whole run of this show four shows at a time -- you can see them all at your leisure and maybe even repeat them. It's kind of like belonging to a book-of-the-month club. And as one reviewer said, a whole season set with all the little extras would be a REAL monster.
I do have one complaint, though. It WOULD be better if we could see the episodes with their original credits every time, rather than just having the original opening as a separate bonus. (Is it that clean negatives of that opening no longer exist?) And also, what about the original commercials, often done on set, and often by Lucy and Desi? I hope we can see these in later editions.
But overall, this is a milestone achievement. One thing, though -- the people who are eating this up would surely relish a similar release of the first three seasons of THE LUCY SHOW. What is available of this show concentrates on the later seasons that hinged on tacky star guests. But these were not good television; the plots are boneheaded, the performances are kindergarten-broad, and the whole show was resting on its laurels by then. The earlier LUCY SHOWS were as good as I LOVE LUCY, especially the first season in crisp black-and-white with lots of Vivian Vance. Paramount and CBS Video take note -- a nice box set of the first season of the LUCY SHOW would sell big.

(More customer reviews)Finally, one TV's most beloved sitcoms from the 1960's arrives on DVD July 21, 2009. After releasing Lucille Ball's first series in its entirety, "I Love Lucy", CBS Home Video is bringing out, what I consider, one of the best television shows of all-time.
"The Lucy Show" was Lucille Ball's follow-up to her immensely popular 1950's TV program, and at first she was hesitant to do another weekly series for a variety of reasons: first, she knew the work involved in doing a TV show week after week, and secondly she also didn't know if the audience would accept her playing a widow, as she and Desi Arnaz were so closely identified as America's first TV couple. Since she and Desi were now divorced, having them star in a television show together was virtually impossible. One of the stipulations she had with the new CBS show was that she wanted Desi to be its executive producer, (which he was that first season), as Lucy knew Desi had the mind and ability to produce a top-rated show, and she wanted her best friend, Vivian Vance, to star along with her. Lucy's demands were met.
"The Lucy Show", originally titled "The Lucille Ball Show" in its inception, aired its first episode on October 1, 1962. Lucy played Lucy Carmichael, a widow raising 2 children, a daughter Chris, played by Candy Moore, and a son Jerry, played by Jimmy Garrett. Lucy shared her home with her best friend Vivian, played superbly by Vance, who had a son Sherman, portrayed by Ralph Hart. Although many TV historians state that it was Ann Romano, from "One Day at a Time", who played TV's first divorced woman, that distiction, however, belongs to Vivian Vance, who was the medium's first divorcee in this series. "The Lucy Show" followed the adventures of Lucy and Vivian, as they raised their children alone, and encountered various mishaps while living without men. The series explored what it was like for two women maintaining a household all alone, and the series depicted the problems each had with their personal lives, such as finding Mr. Right.
"The Lucy Show" is one of my favorite shows ever, and I actually love it even more than "I Love Lucy". This long awaited boxset of the series' first season, features 30 episodes, that have been rarely seen over the years. This first season is filmed in glorious black and white, but subsequent seasons were filmed in color as Lucille Ball knew they could be more easily sold in syndication than the black and white ones. The show continued to be broadcast in black and white until the 1965 season, but at the beginning of the 1963 season filming in B&W was discontinued. These 30 shows are some of the best work Lucille Ball ever did in her career, albeit they have hardly been seen by newer audiences. Many of the writers from "I Love Lucy" wrote many of these 30 shows, and their originality and creativity is evident. The best episodes from this season are: "Lucy and Viv Put in a TV Antenna", in which Lucy and Vivian go to extremes to go up on the roof to install a new antenna, as their signal is gone. This episode is hilarious, especially when one watches it during this day in time as many of us have cable and satellite, but the writing is dead on, and the performances, along with Lucy and Viv's physical comedy, are at its zenith. Another great show is "Lucy and Viv Put In A Shower", where the roomates install a new shower, as they realize having one bathroom doesn't cut it for a home housing 5 people. While doing the shower scene Lucille Ball almost drowned, and thanks to Vivian Vance, she was saved. One of my favorite Christmas shows from any series is in this set and is entitled "Together For Christmas", as Lucy and Vivian argue over a tree. Each wants to have a tree decorated to each other's taste, so to make a compromise, they each put up a tree in the living room. They eventually have a fight and destroy the other's tree, with Lucy going so far as sawing Viv's!
"The Lucy Show" is one of those rare network TV shows that never left the top 10 during its six year run on CBS. It actually finished its final season on the network in the early spring of 1968 at at whopping #2 in the Nielsens. The series would return that fall under a new title, "Here's Lucy", with a completey new format. "The Lucy Show" finished its first season at number 5, a solid hit, as the audience welcomed Lucille Ball and her co-horts into their home week after week. Important to note too is that Gale Gordon wouldn't start appearing until the following season. In the first year, a banker named My. Barnsdahl, played by character actor Charles Lane, supervised Lucy's trust fund left to her by her husband.
The series' theme music was created and performed by Wilbur Hatch, who did the music for "I Love Lucy".
Lucille Ball would go on to win two Emmy's for her role in this series in subsequent seasons, and various guest stars would pop up over the years, like Joan Crawford, Milton Berle, Carol Burnett, and Ann Southern.
There have been a handful of "Lucy Show" episodes that have been put out on home video and DVD over the years, but these are the public domain shows that were never cleaned up, and they were the edited and syndicated broadcast shows that were jumpy and scratchy. These 30 shows in this boxset have been beautifully restored from the studio's 35 mm prints and come with renewed sound, and according to studio reps, they look amazing. They are also uncut.
This boxset also comes with a new interview with Lucille Ball's daughter Lucy Arnaz, and for the first time in years Jimmy Garrett is interviewed , discussing the show and his TV mom. There are also rare commercials featuring "The Lucy Show's" network promos.
If having "The Lucy Show" on DVD isn't enough for you, talk is "Here's Lucy", Lucy's 3rd series, is coming to DVD this summer too with the complete first season. "Here's Lucy" had a DVD release in 2004 featuring some of the best episodes during it's run, but like "The Lucy Show", it will be the first time that complete season boxsets will be released. I am in Heaven!

Although the menu options are quite poor it doesnt matter b/c the shows themselves are so good. They just don't make shows like these anymore. Many of the other DVD's being offered on the Burns and Allen show on this site are NOT worth purchasing. GET THIS ONE!!!

Bewitched - The Complete Fourth Season (1964) Review

(More customer reviews)Much can be said about Bewitched's 4th season. I believe the series peaked here. They introduced a whole slew of new sound effects, some of which remained until the end of the series. Sam's identical cousin, Serena, began making semi-regular appearances during this season. Dr. Bombay appears a few times also. His character was fully developed from the word GO. Also, this was the final season we see Aunt Clara prior to Marion Lorne's passing away. (They should have at least given an explanation about her absence in season 5).
Some of the best episodes here include "Double Double Toil and Trouble" where we first see Serena terrorizing Darrin while pretending to be Samantha. Also, "I Confess" has Sam showing Darrin, via dream, what would happen if they told the world Sam's true identity. Another classic is "Allergic to Macedonian Dodo Birds" has Endora losing her powers only to be a bigger terror to Darrin than ever before. This is also the only season to film a Thanksgiving episode where aunt Clara zaps the gang back to the first Thanksgiving...a holiday must-see. Oh, and let us not forget Samantha being crowned Queen of the Witches. They came up with this idea, then didn't know what to do with it, so they quietly seemed to drop it. It was mentioned halfway through the season, then not ever again acknowledged that it ever happened until the beginning of season 7.
Although we don't see Tabitha too many times at the very start of the season, she pulls some very funny story lines with her powers as the season progresses including conjuring up Prince Charming out of a fairy tale, turning a spoiled brat of a neighbor into a bulldog, and zapping up strange-looking spooks out of a halloween book. The second episode was devoted to Tabitha turning her dolls and stuffed animals into live beings, but if you look and listen closely, it is very obvious that episode was filmed for season 3, but wasn't aired until the beginning of season 4.
My only complaint about this season was that if someone were tuning into episodes like "Business Italian Style" or "Cheap, Cheap" and they never have seen the show before, they would come to the conclusion that the Stephens' were childless. That always bugged me, but that has always been a television affliction. We are always to assume kids are asleep, in their rooms, out back, etc while the action is going on. Just watch "Everybody Loves Raymond" or "I Love Lucy" and you'll know what I mean.
There were a couple of lousy episodes including "Majority of One" and the episode that introduced a nanny, but never materialized after that. But thankfully, with modern DVD's, you don't even have to fastforward over them. Just click which episode you want to see, and it appears. Samantha and Tabitha would have said that the mortals were catching up with them.
But every show has episodes that are subpar, and quirks. But the superior character development, original storylines and superior acting makes Bewitched a show for all-time. Many shows in the sixties were not terribly well acted, especially the police dramas. But many of the sitcoms like Bewitched, Jeannie, the Flying Nun, That Girl, Green Acres, Beverly Hillbillies, Get Smart, all had top rate actors and storylines. This is why they remain a staple in our culture to this day.

(More customer reviews)Hey Bewitched Fans get ready for the Eighth and Final Season of Bewitched coming out this July. This may be the last season of Bewitched, but you sure do not want to miss this extra ordinary last season. This season has 26 more magical episodes including the 7 story arch of Darrin and Sam in Europe, Tabitha entering the second grade and other adventures involving the Stephens family. The season kicks off when Darrin and Samantha arrive in London, England and Sam is sent back to the 16th century for setting free a warlock who was imprisoned in a painting. While there, Darrin and Endora must rescue Samantha before she gets beheaded by King Henry VIII. Also they travel to Italy, France and Scotland. Sam learns that the legendary Loch Ness Monster is none other than a warlock named Bruce who ages ago transformed the monster into the creature for bothering Serena. Next stop is Italy, where we learn Esmeralda was the one who made the Tower of Pisa lean and then we must do as the Romans do in "Bewitched, Bothered, and Baldoni" where Endora zaps statues into real life. Paris is quite fun when Maurice sends Darrin atop the Eiffel Tower. The final stop in the European Business trip is the spooky Halloween Episode called "The Ghost who made a Spectre of himself". This episode will have you rolling on the floor laughing as Louise, Larry, Samantha and Darrin all get heckled by a Ghost!
In "TV or Not TV", Tabitha gets infuriated when she sees the Punch and Judy show and condemns Punch for hitting the puppet Judy. She pops in on the show and the producers want to keep her as a guest, but Darrin and Samantha do not want their daughter at such a young age on the show. In another episode, Maurice and Samantha come down with a plague. Moving on, Darrin chases Hansel and Gretel around in episode 238. The last few episodes of 1971 will have viewers laughing until they cry especially in "The Warlock in the Gray Flannel Suit", because the lines between Larry and Alfonzo are hysterical. In "Adam, Warlock or Washout" we see a test on Adam similar to an earlier episode back in Season 3 where the high witches test Adam's powers. So if you want to find out if he is a warlock you must purchase this great season.
The episodes get more funny when the 1972 episodes appear. Esmeralda gets in a bit of trouble when she sits for some children who think she has cracked her mind in "Samantha's Magic Sitter". Another episode that viewers really like is the one where Sam develops a condition that makes her weigh over 500 lbs., so we bring in the one and only Dr. Bombay who cures her to no avail only causing her to be the opposite light as air. But, don't fret because cousin Serena returns in this Season to bring more laughter especially in "Serena's Richcraft" where she falls for a rich man and then again in "Serena's Youth Pill" where she gives Larry Tate a pill that restores his youth, but without some side-effects. In "Samantha on Thin Ice", Darrin challenges both Tabitha and Samantha to learn to skate the mortal way. Little does Darrin know that Endora makes Tabitha a prodigy and Canadian Olympic figure skater Robert Paul guest stars in this episode. (This was when the Winter and Summer Olympics were in the same year). The last historical figure we see in the series is George Washington. He and Martha make appearances in a two part episode where Esmeralda is helping Tabitha on her homework and accidentally sneezes up our forefather. The authorities also find out Tabitha is not attending school and Mrs. Peabody, a busybody, gets the pleasure or burden of being Tabitha's second grade teacher in a few episodes. The last episode is "The Truth, Nothing but the Truth, So Help Me, Sam" in which Endora up to her clever tricks puts a hex on Darrin's gift for Sam which makes every mortal tell the truth while around it. This, however, proves to be more good than harm. He not only wins the clients account, but shows once again that his love for Samantha is for real, forever and they live happily ever after. What's a meddling mother-in-law to do?
This may be the last season of Bewitched, but the show will go down in history as being the longest and funniest of the supernatural themed comedies of the 1960's and 1970's. ABC had planned a 9th season for Bewitched, but Elizabeth Montgomery decided after 8 long years to leave the show while it was still popular. The only thing viewers will miss this season is that Darrin's parents are not present, Mr. and Mrs. Kravitz are no where to be seen, however, they are spoken of, and a few other characters like Uncle Arthur are not present as well.
So Bewitched Fans get ready, get set, and GO get Bewitched: The complete 8th and Final Season coming this July!! You won't want to miss out on the last season to put in your collection!

The Golden Girls - The Complete Third Season (1985) Review

(More customer reviews)This is the third season of the 1980s-1990s hit show, "The Golden Girls." There are twenty-five episodes, with a total runtime of appx. 550 minutes (9 hours and 10 minutes). Below are summaries of the shows written by myself:
1. "Old Friends"
Sophia befriends an old man on the boardwalk whom she becomes quick friends with, but his actions seem a little strange. Also, Blanche accidentally gives away Rose's favorite teddy bear at a garage sale.
2. "One for The Money"
The girls reminisce about times they've tried to quickly make money after Sophia attempts a get-rich-quick plot.
3. "Bringing Up Baby"
Rose's dead uncle leaves a pig with her and the girls. The only thing keeping the girls from killing Rose is the money they get when Baby dies.
4. "The Housekeeper"
The girls hire, then fire a housekeeper who may have magical powers, when it seems as though the girls may be cursed.
5. "Nothing to Fear But Fear Itself"
Rose has to conquer her biggest fear: Public speaking. This prompts Dorothy and Blanche to reminisce about their greatest fears.
6. "Letter to Gorbachev"
When Rose writes a letter to Mikhail Gorbachev about nuclear war, she becomes stunned when she finds out Gorbachev wants to personally speak to her.
7. "Strange Bedfellows"
The girls partake in a campaign to help a local man get elected to office. However, Blanche's sexual desires seem to have a way to mess that up.
8. "Brotherly Love"
Blanche attempts to go for the stereotypical rich doctor. Sadly for her, the only one he's interested in is Dorothy.
9. "A Visit From Little Sven"
Before his marriage, Rose's cousin pays her a visit. But, when Sven goes ga-ga for Blanche, will the marriage hold up?
10. "The Audit"
When Dorothy gets a visit from Stan, it's never pleasant. This time, when taxes are involved, it becomes a lot worse.
11. "Three on a Couch"
During a visit with a therapist, the four reminisce about times they've argued and bickered.
12. "Charlie's Buddy"
An old friend of Rose's husband stops by for a visit. But, is it more than just that?
13. "The Artist"
The girls pose nude for an artist who will unveil his sculpture at a gathering.
14. "Blanche's Little Girl"
When Blanche's overweight daughter comes to visit, she notices something a little off about her daughter's soon-to-be-husband.
15. "Dorothy's New Friend"
Dorothy befriends an author who really displeases the other girls.
16. "Grab That Dough"
The girls go on a game show together. But, after the events before that, they'll need all the luck in the world.
17. "My Brother, My Father"
Sophia's religious brother pays a visit. However, he has no knowledge that Dorothy and Stan are seperated.
18. "Golden Moments, Part One"
Sophia plans on moving in with Phil. This makes the girls reminisce about all the times they've shared.
19. "Golden Moments, Part Two"
The girls continue reminiscing as Sophia is contemplating on where to go.
20. "And Ma Makes Three"
When Dorothy feels sorry for Sophia, she lets her tag along on one of her dates. Now, that's all she ever does.
21. "Larceny and Old Lace"
The girls become suspicious of Sophia's new boyfriend, claiming he's a thief.
22. "Rose's Big Adventure"
When Rose's boyfriend retires, he turns into a couch potato when she wants to do a lot more than lie around.
23. "Mixed Blessing"
When Dorothy's son comes to town to announce his engagement, it's not so bad until two bombshells are dropped.
24. "Mr. Terrific"
Rose begins to date, of all things, a local kid's show host.
25. "Mother's Day"
The girls wait for phone calls wishing them a good Mother's Day. While waiting, they remember past Mother's Days.

Altogether, this a wonderful show. And, if the first two sets are any indication, this season should be a wonderful set.

Seinfeld - Season 3 (1992) Review

(More customer reviews)While there were some select excellent episodes during the first two seasons of Seinfeld, I've always thought Season three was when the show really hit its stride and found its comfort zone where it would remain for the next six years.
This season really defined the whole irreverance of the show and the pure ridiculous idiosyncracies of the characters. Among the great episodes of season three:
"The pen" Jerry visits his parents in florida and Jack Klompus gives Jerry the famous Astronaut pen that writes upside down.
"The Library" The library asks Jerry about a book he checked out in 1971 and never returned, so Jerry looks up an old girlfriend for his defense against a library cop. Phillip Baker Hall is priceless as the Libray Cop Bookman.
"The Subway" Everyone has an uncommon experience while going their separate ways on the subway. George meets a beautiful woman who distracts him from his intended destination, a job interview. Jerry falls asleep and then wakes up across from a fat naked man and winds up discussing with him, the New York Mets & Coney Island.
"The Pez Dispenser" Kramer joins the "Polar Bear Club." Jerry gets one of Kramer's Pez dispensers which makes Elaine laugh during a piano recital of George's girlfriend, and that puts their relationship in jeopardy.
"The Boyfriend Parts 1 & 2" Jerry meets Keith Hernandez and wants to make a good impression. Meanwhile, George is out of time on his unemployment and he works harder than ever on his scheme to get a 13 week extension. He tells the unemployment office he was really close on Vandelay Industries, a company that makes latex products and whose main office is Jerry's apartment. Kramer and Newman hate Hernandez back to a time when they were allegedly spit on by him; however, Jerry supports the "second-spitter theory." The First of Many legnedary Episodes.
There is commentary on several episodes and many more extras. This is the season that would catapault Seinfeld to top 10 status!

The Golden Girls - The Complete Fifth Season (1985) Review

(More customer reviews)I am overjoyed to see that this wonderful series has finally come to DVD. I have watched it for many years on television and recorded all their episodes (thirty tapes worth). After all these years, it is still one of my all time favorite shows due to its atmosphere of camaraderie, coziness, and interesting story lines. The main characters were so well acted that I feel as though they were members of my own family. However, the secondary actors generally did a very poor job.
For those of you who are devoted fans you might be interested in this list of episodes and summaries that I have compiled :
1. Sick and Tired Part 1 :
Dorothy begins to feel rather sick for no apparent reason. She visits numerous doctors who treat her as though she is crazy since they are unable to diagnose her malady. Simultaneously, Blanche begins to write a romance novel.
2. Sick and Tired Part 2 :
Finally, Dorothy is able to locate a doctor who is sympathetic to her problem. He explains to her that she does, in actuality have a malady entitled Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, that has just been discovered. Later, when the girls are at a restaurant, Dorothy encounters one of her previous doctors and embarrasses him in front of the entire restaurant when she delivers her sermon against the conceit and unwillingness of some doctors to believe their patients when they are truly ill.
3. The Accurate Conception :
Blanche disapproves when her unmarried daughter, Rebecca, decides to get artificially inseminated.
4. Rose Fights Back :
When Charlie's old company goes bankrupt, they send Rose a letter telling her that they can no longer send her the pension she had been receiving. Unable to afford to live on her own, she begins her search for a new job with dire consequences. She is refused at every job due to her age. Meanwhile, Sophia acquires a membership at a Shopper's Warehouse and begins to order massive quantities of utterly useless groceries including five cartons of sardines.
5. That Old Feeling
Blanche falls in love with her late husband`s brother. However, he refuses to marry her saying that she is in love with the memory of her dead husband, not in love with him as an individual. Meanwhile, Sophia is stealing the car to go on a blind date.
6. Love Under the Big Top
Dorothy's lawyer boyfriend decides that he would rather take a job as a circus clown. Blanche and Rose participate in a demonstration against killing sea creatures (such as dolphins and tuna.)
7. Not Another Monday
Sophia's friend, Martha, decides that she cannot bear "to die in inches," and thus decides to commit suicide. She then begs Sophia to be with her as she dies. While Sophia continues to debate the morals of this issue, Blanche, Rose, and Dorothy take care of an infant over the weekend that becomes dreadfully ill.
8. Dancing In The Dark
Rose's new boyfriend, Miles Webber, causes her to feel stupid due to his superior intellect. However, they eventually come to realize that they love each other despite their differences.
9. All That Jazz
Michael, Dorothy's son, returns home to tell her that he has quit touring with his band and has separated from his wife. It appears that he has turned away from his responsibilities and intends to reside with his parents in a state of permanent childhood. Meanwhile, Rose demands an assistant at work.
10. Ebbtide
Blanche's eccentric father dies and she is unsure how she will ever be able to live with his absence and her refusal to come and see him. Meanwhile, Rose and Sophia let the house against Blanche's specific instructions.
11. Comedy of Errors
Dorothy decides to pursue one of her lifelong dreams and become a stand up comic. Meanwhile, Rose tries to become friends with one of her co-workers and Blanche gets audited.
12. Clinton Avenue Memories
Sophia is loosing her memory and tries to reclaim it by visiting her old home. This is a very poignant episode, especially the ending where her long dead, and much loved, husband talks to her and tries to encourage her to return to the more spirited personality of her youth.
13. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
Dorothy reluctantly helps Stan after he looses most of his money and the girls realize that they should consider others on Christmas.
14. Great Expectations
Blanche avoids commitment when her new boyfriend is hospitalized after a heart attack. As she debates the issues surrounding this controversy in her life, Rose forces her friends to attend a positive think group that gets Dorothy thinking about her general outlook on life.
15. Mary Had A Little Lamb
The girls sixteen year old neighbor comes to their house, begging for help. It appears that she has become pregnant and her father has thrown her out of the house. As the girls try to reunite Mary and her father, Blanche becomes terrified when the convict she was exchanging letters with is let out of jail and wishes to visit her.
16. An Illegitimate Concern
Blanche discovers that her husband was unfaithful to her and that he even had an illegitimate child that has now shown up and wishes to talk to Blanche about the father he never knew. While Blanche is trying to deal with this crushing blow, Dorothy and Sophia enter a mother/daughter contest as Sonny and Cher.
17. Triple Play
Miles introduces Rose to his daughter Caroline. Blanche decides that a good way to attract men is to pretend to be selling a car, one that she rented. Unfortunately, he scheme instantly goes awry when the men become more interested in buying the car than in going out with her.
18. Like the Beep Beep Beep of the Tom-Tom
Blanche it distraught when the doctors tells her that she needs a pacemaker and vows never to go out on another date. Meanwhile Rose tests weight loss products for her job and ends up gaining four pounds.
19. 72 hours
Rose is informed by the hospital that during her surgery to remove her gall bladder she might have come in contact with blood containing the HIV virus. Terrified, she rushes to the hospital to have the test and is told that she must wait three days to hear the result. Simultaneously, Dorothy becomes involved in the Save the Wetlands organization.
20. Twice In A Lifetime
Sophia moves out when Dorothy refuses to let her stay out late at night with her new wild friends. While this drama is progressing, Rose is reunited with Buzz Mueller, her first love. Now she must decide between Buzz and Miles.
21. Sisters and Other Strangers
Blanche's sister arrives in town with good news. Her new romance novel is being published and she and Blanche decided to put away the conflicts of their childhood and become close friends, until Blanche deduces that her sister's sleazy novel is about Blanche's life! While Blanche plots her revenge, Dororthy entertains one of Stan's relatives from Czechoslovakia that has nothing but bad things to say about democracy.
22. Cheaters
Dorothy falls in love with a recently divorced man. However, after he proposes to her she begins to wonder if he is really ready for marriage. Meanwhile, Blanche and Sophia loose their money to a con-artist in the mall.
23. "The Mangiacavallo Curse Makes a Lousy Wedding Present"
Dorothy borrows one of Blanche's men when she needs a date for her goddaughter's wedding. As can be expected, this engenders a massive fight. Meanwhile, Sophia proceeds to put an old Sicilian curse on the grandfather of the groom who deserted her on their wedding day, seventy years earlier. Rose leaves the reception and boards a plane to be reunited with Miles.
24. All Bets Off
Dorothy returns to her addiction to gambling, something she thought she had conquered fifteen years earlier. Meanwhile, Blanche decides to date her co-worker and Rose takes up painting.
25-26. The Presidents Coming! The Presidents Coming! Parts 1&2
The President is coming to Miami to dedicate the new Senior Citizens building and decides that he would like to meet Dororthy, Rose, Blanche, and Sophia. As the girls anticipate his arrival, they begin to discuss their past which mostly concerns clips from previous episodes.
This is an excellent show, and I highly recommend it. The characters are so wonderful that you will share their joys and sorrows as though they were your own.

(More customer reviews)The phrase "shape up or ship out" holds a lot of water this season for Lt. Commander Quinton McHale and his fun-lovin' PT 73 crew of goof-offs and gamblers who were transferred to Italy for the show's final 30 episodes in McHale's Navy - Season Four!
After 3 seasons set on the South Pacific island of Taratupa, "McHale and his pirates" are reassigned to duty near the town of Voltafiore where they run afoul the shady Mayor Lugatto (Jay Novello) while continuing to oppose blustery Captain Binghamton and his jittery aide Lt. Carpenter, who are joined this season by Colonel Harrigan (Henry Beckham) and General Bronson (Simon Scott).
Also joining in on Season Four's capers, schemes and hijinks is local Dino Barone (Dick Wilson). As with co-star Tim Conway in Season Three, star Ernest Borgnine also gets to pull double duty this season in a [recurring] dual role as Guiseppe, McHale's Italian lookalike cousin in "Guiseppe McHale" and "The Return of Guiseppe".

Comedy Central's logo is displayed at the start of each show and the quality is at times adequate to very bad at other times. The only redeeming quality is that the program is not available from the copyright holder. Still this information should be included in the item description, but it is not.

Now fans who have waited patiently, like myself and my friends, will be able to own the complete first season of the Winslow's and their quirky neighbor Steve Urkle in Family Matters. No news yet on any special features and some are wary of expecting any but just being able to own these episodes on a proper set should be more than enough to please fans. Though, any exec's out there with a say in the matter should be aware of how much us fans who have waited so long would appreciate a little something extra, a blooper reel would be great, even some sort of featurette or promotional material if not a commentary or two, just throwing that out there.
Anybody growing up or alive in the 90's knows the name Steve Urkle. Urkle became a household name and now fans can revisit, and newcomer's can finally be introduced to, the man who did do that. Though Steve Urkle easily became a star the show wasn't only great because of him, (in fact Urkle wasn't written in until the 12th episode but became so popular they made him a regular and fit him into some earlier episodes not yet aired), but it was also great because of Carl, Harriette, Laura, Eddie and the entire Winslow family and how audiences related to them and the issues they dealt with, which is an even rarer thing this day and age. I still remember the way Carl would drag out "Harr-i-ette" or how Steve would be told "go home Steve" only to then respond "I don't have to take this, I'm going home." This show is classic American sticom at it's finest and they just can't make them like this anymore. I don't know if it's because the world has changed or if they just don't know how to capture the innocence, comedy and family values the way sitcoms once used to. This show in particular had great stories that at their core taught us family does matter and it still does just as much if not more so today.
2010 is a great year for the 'Most Wanted TV Series on DVD' crowd, shows like Daria and Family Matters that fans have waited for patiently for so many years are finally getting released. It looks like all the online petitions and fans showing desire to purchase these great series has finally paid off. I have to give this show 5 stars and don't see any reason that this set won't deserve five stars, especially for fans who have waited so long for this "most wanted on DVD" series. Everybody get out there and buy this, it's the bigger love of the family!
