Several programs and actors in the TV GUIDE PRESENTS... box set had more than one television go-round. Sherlock Holmes and Ellery Queen top the list of mystery series with four incarnations each. (There was even a Holmes-related British show called "The Rivals of Sherlock Holmes." This one featured scripts based on the writings of A. Conan Doyle's contemporaries.) Another detective series, Dragnet, enjoyed a revival a decade after its last broadcast. Lucille Ball gets top sit-com honors with five entries featuring her name in the title. Dick Van Dyke, a CBS-TV rival, had only two sit-coms (plus a drama show). Red Skelton's variety program shifted from NBC to CBS and from 30 minutes to a full hour.
The most interesting episodes in this package are examples of rarer shows, like Dick Tracy, Man with a Camera, The Lone Wolf and Gang Busters. All 32 of these however are fine examples of TV's golden age. Each DVD offers a pleasant four-hour mix that's sort of like watching a broadcast day of long ago. A worthy addition to any TV/video library.
TV FAVORITES MEGAPACK 100 EPISODES COLLECTION is three times the pleasure-- it even has some dramas and game shows.
