First of all, I love cult movies, I loved the dearly departed "Cult Movies Magazine," and I love public access TV. This DVD has all of those elements rolled into one.
I didn't know what to expect when I ordered this DVD from Amazon, but I have enjoyed every episode of Cult Movies TV with its hosts Buddy Barnett and Michael Copner, who were both involved with Cult Movies Magazine at the time.
This Pasadena Public Access series aired in 1999. Like a lot of cult movies, this TV series is low budget but that's the beauty of it. The guests are infomative and fun and the hosts are knowledgable and respectful of the various cult figures who appear on the show.
The late, great Yvette Vickers has a whole show to herself and really shines. "Spider Baby" director Jack Hill's episode is great along with a short segment near the end of the show featuring Buddy Barnett. Buddy is usually the low-key one of the two hosts, but in this segment he shows a flair for comic acting.
Buddy is shown wearing a "turban," which appears to be made out of a bedsheet, wrapped around his head. On the front is a large piece of costume jewelry. He is hunkered over a small table with a crystal ball. Buddy then tries to conjure up the spirit of Stanley Kubrick to ask him this burning question: "Just what the heck was 'Eyes Wide Open' all about?"
If you love cult movies and low budget public access television, buy this DVD and have some fun. Hopefully, Alpha New Cinema will come out with a second volume of this cool little series. It could be called "Son of Cult Movies TV."
