The Best of the Power Rangers - The Ultimate Rangers (1993) Review

Ok, the following episodes of Power Rangers are on this DVD:-
Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers "White Light(Parts 1 & 2)"
Power Rangers in Space "Countdown to Destruction(Parts 1 & 2)"
Power Rangers Lost Galaxy "To The Tenth Power"
Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue "Trakeena's Revenge(Parts 1 & 2)"
Power Rangers Wild Force "Forever Red"
Pretty disappointing selection. First of all I think they could have had more episodes with this package. Here's what I think of what they have chosen-
White Light (Parts 1 & 2)- When this episode came out it was a major episode because it introduced the White Ranger so it is quite understandable that it would be chosen for this selection.
Countdown To Destruction (Parts 1 & 2)- Simply the main reason to buy this DVD. It is the best two Power Rangers episodes ever made. It is quite epic in scope and featured the pivotal destruction of Zordon who originated the Power Rangers.
To The Tenth Power- Great choice again and one of the best crossover events in Power Rangers.
Trakeena's Revenge (Parts 1 & 2)- Lightspeed Rescue was probably the weakest Power Rangers series, and this is one of the best episodes of that series. Nice to see a crossover with the Lost Galaxy Power Rangers but it just doesn't live up to its potential. Still, not a bad choice.
Forever Red- The amazing episode that featured various Red Rangers teaming up together.
Now as you can see I've pretty much complimented every episode on the DVD. But my problem isn't with the episodes they have, it's with what they don't have. There also should have been an episode from each series- where are Power Rangers Zeo and Power Rangers Time Force? Another plus would have been to have the very first episode of Ninja Storm. They call this the Best of the Power Rangers, yet they forget to include some of the best episodes such as Ninja Quest (Parts 1, 2, 3 & 4) from Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, as well as the final four episodes of Power Rangers Lost Galaxy and the opening and final episodes of Power Rangers Time Force. That's why I'm disappointed with this DVD.
It probably won't happen, but here's hoping they have a volume 2, or start to bring out the entire series in boxsets.

Batman - Return to the Batcave (2003) Review

Batman - Return to the Batcave (2003)

I bought this a few weeks ago and I must say it was very interesting. While not nearly as funny as the original Batman show, I liked the flashbacks to what was going on in Adam West's and Burt Ward's respective lives during those days! Some may have been shocked by Adam and Burt's former womanizing but to me, that humanized even more in my eyes and I applaud them for having the guts to admit that.
Anyway, for those familiar with the old series, this is a fun romp as they try to solve who stoled the Batmobile! Still, I wish they could've done it a few years earlier while the two other main villians were still alive. By that, I am refering to Ceasar Romero (The Joker) and Burgess Merideth (The Penguin). Since this film was made, Frank Gorshin (The Riddler) has passed on though I am not sure about Julie Newmar as I think she's still alive (I know that Earth Kitt still is as she's also a former Catwoman).
On a personal note, I also have to applaud whoever picked the actors that portrayed the younger versions of Adam and Burt (especially Burt as it was dead on)! I noticed they did had to pad the stomach a bit for the actor who played Adam West because was physically in much better shape than Adam ever was! LOL!
I also liked the hip-hop version of the old Batman theme. It was an updated take on it BUT still true and respectful to the old theme as well as the more disco type one they played when Adam and Burt first put on their costumes for the first day of shooting. While I have nothing against rap and such, many times they tailor it to "being real" and that nonsense! I am glad whoever made those two pieces of music stayed true to the spirit of the show.
Finally, the references to Lyle Waggoner, the man that ALMOST got to play Batman! I liked seeing that rare footage of his screen test and the fact they almost went with the OLD SCHOOL costume (which was the same as Adam's only it was a big black bat on the chest/must like you see now on the Justice League Unlimited cartoon)!
If you buy this feature, then may I recommend you buy BATMAN - THE MOVIE from the 60's with it. And if you do, watch the movie first and I would recommend watching it at least once with the alternative commentary with Adam and Burt as much of what they talk about on that DVD is on the "Return" DVD! This way, you'll have a better understanding of "Return To The Batcave."
On its own, its a great experience for those who remember the series fondly but may be hard for newer fans to follow. I'd recommend it to die-hard Batman fans or to those that really want to know about the 60's TV show.

Leverage: The Complete Second Season (2009) Review

Leverage: The Complete Second Season (2009)

After the success of their freshman season, the gang from Leverage: The First Season are back and have relocated to Beantown to right the wrongs committed against regular people who have nowhere else to turn. They have all found that after doing good deeds, crime just isn't what it used to be. Whether it's tangling with the Irish mob, dealing with a shady boxing promoter, returning a corrupt investment banker's ill gotten gains, or ensuring that an inheritance goes to the rightful heir, all exhibit the savvy wit and quirkiness that has become the Leverage signature.
Thank goodness for TNT - which produces some of the best dramas on television. With plenty of nail biting action, humor, great music soundtrack, and ripped from the headline stories, the momentum just keeps building. And the chemistry among the cast is first rate, seamlessly adding Jeri Ryan to the cast late in the season when Gina Bellman (Sophie) took a hiatus due to her pregnancy. One of my favorite scenes is in the first episode when hacker Hardison introduces himself and Parker as detectives Costigan and Costello - an homage to the outstanding film The Departed (Widescreen Edition). My only gripe? The seasons are much too short.
